In this series of images, I have tried to capture elements of the present day farming community in West Wales. In my working career, I had multiple contacts with farmers and became quite sensitive and knowledgeable to the changes and threats which have happened and are present to the farming community. The images were taken at Llandeilo Mart and Llanybydder Mart. I came away with an impression of sadness that the overall age of the people attending the mart was in some cases was over sixty and fears that people had for community and the fear of Brexit. Obviously, the main activity in the mart is commerce but equally important is that it is a meeting place for a section of society which may not integrate fully with the wider community. The farming community is bound by its traditions and language. The discussions (that I could understand) were surprisingly varied but showed an ignorance of the reality of the impending political situation which is about to have a grave impact on the hill farmer.
