In this series, I have tried to portray what loneliness is. Francis is a 74-year-old widowed lady. Her family, one daughter and a son live far from their mother, her only close companion is Jack, the Jack Russell terrier. Widowed twelve years ago, her husband died of a debilitating nerve disease. Francis nursed him day and night until his death. This series portrays Francis in her own environment, with her close companion Jack. Both are devoted to each other, a symbiotic relationship. A little of her life can be seen in the images, the pictures on the wall, the rosettes and ornaments. Francis exudes friendliness and has a happy persona. Although loneliness breaks through. The last selected image I think clearly demonstrates this trait. It portrays a secluded life, life-worn and fearing for the future alone.
